There are no plans to reconnect the old platforms at Moor Street!!!
Does anyone know why connecting the old Moor St platforms has proved
so problematic / such a low priority?
I know that Chiltern have had difficulties - through no fault of their
own - which have restricted passenger growth (I was surprised to find
a 3-car 1900 ex Marylebone to Brum only maybe three-quarters full last
autumn) but why hasn't local commuter growth in the west midlands /
New St congestion pushed this up NRs agenda?
When it was discussed a few years ago it was felt the passenger flows
needed to reach developments around Snow Hill, rather than stopping short
at Moor St. Possibly a gross simplification though, its equally likely
that the crossing moves necessary outside Moor St would reduce capacity
for through trains...
This would have been true before Chiltern spent money bring the platforms
back up to standard....
to then find that there was a shortage of engineers to reconnect the track.
Quite why they are still waiting, I don't know
