It suits First Great Western for the Adelantes to appear unreliable
because it provides FGW with an opportunity to terminate their leases
early, replacing them with HSTs that First Group owns and which do not
therefore carry a leasing charge. I would not be surprised if the
next TOC to use the Adelantes makes a success of them, given a little
time to sort out the problems that FGW's maintenance people have left
them with, of course!

Couldn't agree more, I have felt that for a very long time. The overnight change from being the pride of their fleet and used in the vast proportion of their advertising to being awful rubbish that they have to get rid of was a little strange. I would like to see them left in Alstom's maintenance in a manner similar to the Voyagers and Bombardier since this seems to work well, especially when the contract clear stipulates availability requirements and associated penalties.
