If you only ever came to uk.railway via Google Groups, you probably
wouldn't even know what Usenet is. To someone who is used to Google
Groups, Yahoo! Groups and web-based discussion forums, Usenet
newsgroups must seem particularly odd.

I read somewhere that Usenet has been in sharp decline for a couple of
years now, as Google Groups, Yahoo! Groups and web-based discussion
forums (not to mention social networking sites) take over. Several
ISPs have either dropped Usenet altogether, or offer such a poor
service that it deters people from using it.
