You're making a common error there - Apex tickets are not limited to a single operator's route, indeed Crosscountry still offer Virgin-like' Value Advance' singles from Oxford to Bradford, as a check on the OJP shows.

No, but sometimes, like any ticket with a limited number, they're not available. I recently went from Guiseley to Haverfordwest. I got an ATW AP ticket for the entire outward journey, but on the return there was on AP tickets for the ATW bit to Manchester. For the last leg home I had to get a day single ticket.
