There certainly will be a decrease in loading at the appropriate
substations, although the main effect will be the freeing up of paths
for other services. For example, Modern Railways reports that SE will
be increasing the frequency of the Victoria - Orpington via Beckenham
Junction service to 4 tph from the present 2 in December. As a result,
the actual decrease on loadings will be small. Bear in mind that
typically off-peak there are 2 slow and 6 fast South Eastern services
per hour via Beckenham Junction, in addition to Eurostars.
Don't two of the six fast services go via Catford though?
normally run via the Atlantic Lines and Catford (and via Stewarts Lane in
the up direction). However, they are sometimes diverted by Kent House,
probably when the Catford Loop is occupied by a freight.
