One of the first things told to someone using a gun (legitimately) is
that you _never_ point it at someone unless you intend to use it.
In my basic army training it was "unless you are prepared to use it".
There's a big difference.
Someone guarding a prisoner is *prepared* to shoot them if they attempt
to escape, but does not *intend* to use it if they don't.
The
standard assumption that anyone is entitled to make in practice is
that when a gun is pointed at someone it is going to be fired and
anyone present is free to prevent that happening.
So if I see a police officer pointing a gun at a suspect, I'm entitled
to shoot him? Can't you see the logic error here?
