They operate two aircraft.
The Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian carries 9 passengers and burns 52
gallons of Jet-A1 per hour in the cruise at 162 knots (186 mph).
That's 32 passenger-miles per gallon.
The Cessna Turbo Stationair T206H carries 5 passengers and burns 19.1
gallons of 100LL per our in the cruise at 154 knots (177mph). That's
46 passenger miles per gallon.
So neither plane is significantly worse than doing the journey by car.
The usual arguments that plane travel is particularly harmful because
of the height of the emissions doesn't apply, of course, because on
the hop to Oban the plane never gets very high.
On the other hand, a 2 coach class 158, does around 5 mpg and carries
140 passengers, which is 700 passenger miles per gallon...
Ian, who almost used the seaplane to Oban last week but decided to
drive at the last moment.
