A steam railway tourist attraction damaged during the recent flooding
is to host special events to help with the cost of repairs.
It will cost more than £2m to repair the Severn Valley Railway, twice
the original estimate, after it was damaged in last month's heavy
rain.
An aerial survey of the line, in Worcs and Shropshire, has revealed
more major landslide damage to the line.
Events include a gala day in Bewdley and visits by Thomas the Tank
Engine.
Currently, only the Kidderminster to Bewdley section of the line is
operating but managers hope it may be possible to open the line to
Arley in six weeks, and then to Hampton Loade after that.
It will take longer to open the Highley section in Shropshire.
Development agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM) has already said it
will offer £500,000 towards track repairs and another £250,000 to
refurbish an engine house.
Another £750,000 of European funding is also likely, the agency said.
