I guess the SWT 159/1s and 158s must be refurbishments then Tony?
Which
means the auto announcements and displays still to be fitted, are non
optional, but are still being procured. Will there be some sort of
deadline to meet for this?

Slightly off topic, but do the 159/1s have the promised toilet
retention
tanks fitted yet?

I think it varies, I assume some of the early overhauls weren't held up
while the tanks were designed and fitted, but I can confirm that 158886
definitely has them, I saw it on the Totton - Romsey service at Eastleigh
this week, and the tanks are clearly visible between the end bogies.

The early ones are to be fitted in due course. Whether in kit form or
by return to Wabtec I don't know. But Wabtec wanted to ensure the CET
worked before putting it on everything.
Wabtec are out to become the "overhauler" of choice for the 158s.
There's a very big fleet to do. The quality and price of the SWT
project has already won them additional work of this kind.

Have you heard anything about eventual fitting of CETs to the whole 158
fleet? We hear about issues with the H&S implications for track workers, but
as the population seem to be less and less inclined to follow the
traditional 'flushing' rules, (due presumably to increasing proportion of
trains generally fitted with tanks), may there come a time when the DfT
directs...
