I noticed when I went out of Waterloo earlier in the year, that the
458s seems to have started using their gangway connections between
units. In the past, I am sure I had read on here that they were not
suitable for passneger use for some reason. Anyone know what has
changed to bring them into use?

Was it not that they took absolutely ages to initialise and there was
the computer mechanism behind which possibly delayed times further?

I believe that I read, ages ago, that it took a ridiculous amount of time to
secure the gangway connections. For that reason they are now set up prior to
a pair of units entering service at the beginning of the day and remain
connected throughout the diagram. I'm not sure if any of the single set
diagrams pair up during the peaks but I would imagine, from that, that if
they do they would run without gangways connected.
