Re: The 'new' St Pancras station - thoughts?

In message <87iramhad9.fsf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, at 09:03:14 on Mon, 21 May 2007, Graham Murray <newspost@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> remarked:
In the evening peak, there are *five* trains per hour, with minimum
turnaround times of 20 minutes for a Meridian and 30 for an HST,
reducing to 10 minutes if the set has run ECS from Cricklewood.

Why such long turnround times? Surely it should be possible to turn
round a service in the time taken for arriving passengers to get off,
departing passengers to get on, the driver to walk from one end to the
other and perform the brake test. While it is not a London terminus, I
have seen cl165 units on the Bedwyn/Basingstoke lines at Reading turn
round in about 2 mins when the arriving service is late.

The first thing they do is attach water hoses presumably to fill up the toilet flush. HSTs are often marked "Do Not Move" and perhaps have some routine maintenance done. Fresh catering supplies are loaded.

What's the typical turn-round time of a long distance train at Euston, Kings Cross or Paddington?
