But surley, the fitting of Air-Con would ruin EWS's Carbon Footprint,
wouldn't it?

It might not be too bad if it took power from the main engines which I
guess are generating a fair bit of electricity anyway. The cabs aren't as
big as say a Pendolino coach so the system could be a lot smaller.

If the cabs are getting hot due to solar gain, can some sort of tinting
not be fitted? (The sort that's mirrored on the outside but transparent on
the inside)

Do locos have a 'type approval' system, that is are they designed and that
design approved, and cannot then be changed without re-approval? Had this
system on ships, two radars with similar switches in similar positions, once
changed range the other switched the thing off. Hasty switching on the
latter blew up the power supply, wasn't allowed to change the knobs as these
had been 'type approved' Solution was to selotape a drawing pin to the
on-off switch to remind people which machine they were on.

If no type aproval is involved then surely if the thing is going in for an
overhaul it would not be beyond the wit of man to weld some brackets so that
seat designs could be trial fitted to establish the best available. Re the
temperature fitting an aircon unit is not a big deal from an engineering
standpoint and would not cost a fortune. If the blokes driving these things
felt people were listening to them and reacting productivity would go up
(established fact, something called the Hawthorne effect IIRC).

When the original locos were built with bow doors these were held to be
draughty and made the cabs too cold in winter. They were then welded shut
and eventually removed.

Re whinging methinks the all time winners have to be the Westminster mob.
