Thanks for that Peter. Interesting to see what caused our 2 hour

Just had a great day out on this tour, part hauled by 4771 Green
Arrow, with Class 47 diesels rest of the time. Itinerary went awry
when there was an issue over a vandalised signal next to Great
Coates Sidings No.2 as we worked through the freight lines from
Grimsby to Immingham Docks which meant the trip has to be curtailed
and we didn't get to do the Doncaster-Rotherham-Sheffield-Deepcar
bit. Still had a smashing time though.
Did anybody take any pictures they will be putting up on the web?
Would love to see them.

hold up. The problem I believe (I am truly an amateur regarding this
matter) was that we went past this signal before the train was
stopped (only a short distance as we were doing about 10mph I think).
However it resulted in quite a big turn out by Network Rail people, a
"Response Unit" vehicle and several visits to the signal box and
signal by engine driver, West Coast Official and Network Rail
Officials.
I wasn't very impressed. We passengers weren't told much of what was
going on, we spent most of the afternoon going nowhere in a boring
siding, and lost a big chunk of the itinerary, including all the
Yorkshire section. Why don't they carry a spare driver to allow for
things like this? After all, you wouldn't expect to find a replacement
driver at short notice with the skill to drive Green Express and the
requisite route knowledge.
What's more, the loco ran low on water (yet again), so had to make an
unscheduled emergency water stop, which took ages as they weren't
prepared for it and had to hunt down a hydrant. And, after all that,
despite the truncated itinerary, we got back well over an hour late (we
were already about an hour late when the SPAD occurred, so I doubt that
we'd have got to Deepcar before nightfall, even without the SPAD).
However, the Premier catering staff were excellent as always, and didn't
complain at losing their break -- they were on duty, more or less
non-stop, for the best part of 14 hours, having to serve three hot meals
and endless drinks. I couldn't fault them, or the catering in general,
in any way.
One other point is that the initial delay was caused by idiotic
photographers trespassing on the ECML to wait for Green Arrow storming
down the main line at 75mph. They were oblivious to 125mph GNER
expresses, which caused the GNER drivers to radio in, and the line to be
briefly shut down to be cleared. As a result, all trains were held up on
the line. We therefore lost our path, and were delayed repeatedly
thereafter.
