A First Great Western station told me earlier that if I wanted to make
a seat reservation after the timetable change in June, I would have to
pay £5 for each single reservation that I wanted to make.
I was told that this would not apply if customers were to make a seat
reservation at the time of purchasing the ticket.
Will this also apply to the currently ridiculous situation whereby
TheTrainLine (etc.) only tell you that you don't have a seat reservation
*after* you've paid for your ticket? In such situations I go to my nearest
station (FGW) with the ticket and they will reserve the seats.
Or how about when a train isn't 'released' for reservations until a couple
of days before it's due to depart? Again it might not be possible to make
reservations for all legs of a journey at the time of buying the ticket,
while they may be desirable later on.
I wonder whether some common sense will be applied here? Past experience
suggests it might not be...
