FGW, like any other TOC, have many and varied faults, but to say "life
is bad now" and that "it will only get worse" ignores some of the good
they have done, and are doing.
On the Cotswold Line, we've gone from a situation where 15% of services
were operated by comfortable 125mph stock, to the present situation
where it's about 70%, and in December it's set to climb higher still.
Our main problem is the single line, and under the present regime, that
ain't anything FGW has the power to fix.
If First wanted to fix it, First could have included proposals to
double the Cotswold Line in the recent franchise bid, as an option for
the DfT to take up.
Did they? Of course not!
I rest my case.
