Re: Train missing stations!

Nearly a riot tonight when the Wagn driver of the 1753 from Kings Cross
to Royston forgot to stop at two stations and ended up going to Potters

The driver didn't apologise and never said anything on the PA, even
after a fair few people went along the train to get his attention

Surely this is a disciplinary offence, worthy of suspension from duty?

I take it the posters lining up ready to shoot the driver lead perfect
lifes and have never made a mistake in whatever jobs they do.

Few drivers enjoy a completely mistake free career, stopping at several
thousand stations a year you are going to make a mistake one day.
Missing a station out is not treated the same as a spad, you'd probably
be mediscreened but its only 4 points, its about 15 for a SPAD
(although these probably change from TOC to TOC).

Not particularly talking about this incident, but it might not have
even been his fault, I've known drivers be given the wrong stopping
pattern on their job card. I've driven from Bedford to Brighton looking
at the previous days card (my error) which luckily by chance had the
same stopping pattern although was a different service.

Its true to say that if he had made a welcome announcement then he
would have probably have been more aware of the stopping pattern. Maybe
he didn't have time to make it. Some of our turn rounds are so short
that by the time you have changed ends and set the cab up, the platform
staff are already giving you the bat to close the doors. Rather than
delay the train I wouldn't waste time making a PA announcement, and
once moving I won't make one as I don't consider it safe to.

I'm also astounded at the lack of railway knowledge displayed by some
posters bearing in mind that to be looking at this group I would
imagine they had some sort of railway interest. "He must have also
SPADed as he must have gone past the red signal at the stations he was
booked to stop at", or words to that effect. Bollocks. I'm not aware,
anywhere, of somewhere station stops are reinforced by a red at the end
of the platform unless they are booked to be held there for another
service to leave first or something. Most station stops are at a green
signal, if there's one there at all.

Everyone makes mistakes in whatever job they do. Its because they are
human. Unless you are one of the perfect few, look at yourself before
starting to whinge at others.
