I'd love to think something wonderful will happen to the prices, but
I doubt it. The video playing machines have tiny screens and cost
several hundred pounds.
That will come down.
Mobile phones are now standard with colour screens - they weren't a few
years ago. THe price point is approximately the same, but you get one
hell of a phone compared to say 1999.
Before subsidy those phones are £299+, and they have tiny screens.
MP3 players used to be "huge" at 5GB - now they are 60GB plus - for the
same price, or less.
£250 upwards. My MP3 player was £24 over a year ago.
The technology will mature and move on. The price you pay at the till
may stay the same, but what you get your money will vastly increase.
I won't hold my breath, but an 8" screen video player with 50GB for about £50 would make a good Xmas present.
