I must admit I like all of the silver schemes, including the WCML
Desiro more-of-a-grey variety. Indeed, it might have been nice, if we
had a national scheme, to use silver as a base - silver with red doors
for IC, blue doors for express and another similarly bold colour
(green?) for local, for example.
There'd be a lot to be said for that, particularly if a bit of local
variation was included (Blue/White stripe for ScotRail express,
for example, or some combination of red/green stripe for the North-
South services in Wales :)
That said, I really do like the darker-to-lighter shading from
bottom to top of bodyside in the new First scheme. It takes away the
rather boxy look of the Desiro shell and might even be a bit easier to
keep looking good in service, being darker at the base.
