Re: Fishguard to lose train service?

The Welsh Assembly Government have put some money in recent months, to
the development of a TrawsCambria bus network - which in many places
provides a public transport route along routes once the domain of train
services. As Andy says, the government in Wales is committed to that
and there are i think sufficient transport people committed to making
it work. The line to Fishguard - which doesnt provide an easy rail
connection with the main centre and employment centres of Pembrokeshire
in any case - is coincidentally parallelled by a main road which runs
from Haverfordwest to Fishguard - and which is currently served by an
hourly service which runs between the two places.

Now, if you go up the coast from Fishguard you reach Cardigan - another
former rail outpost and further up the western coast is Aberystwyth and
you have the makings of another high quality bus route.

I'm as passionate as anyone about rail, but sometimes i think the rail
lobbyists lose sight of reality and common sense when it comes to
transport problems.

As an aside, as someone who lives in Neath, I think the idea of
utilising the Vale of Neath line, and indeed old Neath to Brecon
Lines,. to provide a rail link into the booming east side of Swansea
would be an excellent one to progress. The lines are still there, as
far as Jersey Marine - and the roads from east of Swansea into Swansea
arent going to get any better in terms of capacity.
