Now, if you go up the coast from Fishguard you reach Cardigan - another

you have the makings of another high quality bus route.

The X50 already gives a decent (hourly) link from Aberystwyth to
Cardigan, though the connections into the trains at Aber could
be done a bit better. Do a tightly-linked connection from
Cardigan to Fishguard and on to connect with the trains at
Haverfordwest and I reckon you'd have a very usable system.

I'm as passionate as anyone about rail, but sometimes i think the rail
lobbyists lose sight of reality and common sense when it comes to
transport problems.

As an aside, as someone who lives in Neath, I think the idea of
utilising the Vale of Neath line, and indeed old Neath to Brecon
Lines,. to provide a rail link into the booming east side of Swansea
would be an excellent one to progress. The lines are still there, as
far as Jersey Marine - and the roads from east of Swansea into Swansea
arent going to get any better in terms of capacity.

Now this I would agree with wholeheartedly. It reduces pressure on
the roads into the east of Swansea (something which really needs doing),
it connects an area which is booming to undervalued areas in the
valleys & so would be a spur to regeneration in the western valleys.
This is a //far// better place to invest money in the railways than
throwing it down the Fishguard and North Pembs. hole in the ground.
IMO ;)
