Presumably that was in the days before acronyms were invented. SCNR ;-)

While TOPS recorded the operational aspects of wagons this recorded things
like build date, purchase price and maintenance cost limits. We were rather
surprised to find two two-year old vehicles with grease axle boxes. It
turned out that they were match wagons for a Civil Engineers crane that
lived in a PW yard, and were actually 102 years old - but the "year built"
field had only two digits.

There's also an apocryphal tale of how, towards the end of the implementation
of TOPS, a heck of a lot of old wagons ended up in Northeast England. Sorry I
can't remember the details offhand, but they were very funny indeed.
