well now... that is the *real* problem
Take LPG for cars. currently about half the price of petrol, but only
because the tax has been frozen to get moe people to convert.
Even if you run your mondeo on chip oil, you must lawfully pay tax -
effectively coz you are using a road vehicle and they have tax on
their fuel.

Hollow dreams, pretty lies. the greens would have you believe this is
the way forward, but it has been shown to be political posturing and
economically unviable. They just don't produce enough juice and then
you have the NIMBYs that want power but are not prepared to have the
turbines etc near them.
The *only* answer is nuclear. They can be sited away from high
habitation areas as they don't need rail/lorry heads for inbound fuel.
They don't pollute and despite all the scare mongering from the
loud-mouthed few, it is very safe when administered properly (see
Pripyat for details on how not to do it), it is fairly in-exhaustable,
carbon neutral and long-term. If we want to have the standard of life
we have now (flick the switch and lights come on etc) then we cannot
rely on fossil and green just doesn't cut-it. Until the next big leap
in power generation, fission derived power is the only candidate.
