What Mr Hoggard does not say is whether the lateness was Virgins fault
or Network Rail - not that he'd know or even care. Just another casual
snipe at the rail industry.

Maybe he should delve under the shiney red and silver paintwork of the
train and ask pertinent questions

as to why Virgin purchased an, apparently, fault product and done nothing about it.

I have no idea what caused the lateness in question: whether it was Virgin's fault, Network Rail's, or Almost's. The point is that, to the average passenger, they have paid Virgin to provide a service and Virgin have failed to do so. The fact that Virgin have been let down by sub-contractors is none of the passenger's concern.

And this isn't an anti-Virgin rant: it would be true whoever the train operator in question is. When LU fail to provide me a train to Finchley Central, I blame them and not Infraco JNP or (looks around) Alsthom again.

You and I and Ross and Tony and most of the readers here know about the ridiculous structure of the modern rail network. The average passenger neither knows nor cares. Nor should they.
