The old British 465kHz was eventually supplanted (mainly due to sheer weight of numbers and mass-produced ceramic filters) with the American 455kHz. And even in the days of 465kHz, any 470kHz IFs (and there were some) were a relative rarity. So, as the de facto standard is (and has been for many, many years) 455kHz, I suppose a band at 472 to 480kHz should not pose a serious risk.

Maybe (apart from the oddballs who listen to Radio 5 on the MW) not used
that often these days in the UK. But around the world, there must be
countless trillions of LW/MW domestic radios with 470kHz IFs - and also
quite a few communications receivers and the like.
I confess to not having played much with domestic sets for some years but I
thought they'd gone 455kHz some time back. I know the older sets used 470
but I doubt there are "trillions" of those about.
Add to that to the likely low take up of the proposed band, and the
potential for problems decreases dramatically.
Odd isn't it. Some people (eg Andy) scream when every last Hz of spectrum
isn't chased after and others complain when they are.
