At least you will have the experience of knowing how to conduct yourself
on the bands. That should make a refreshing change. As for surplus
shops, there used to be a metal dealer near Cannock who sold loads of ex
military gear. I think the name was Thackers. Not much knowlege of
electronics though as I
remember one member of staff trying to sell a customer a heating bar from
an electric fire as a '1 ohm resistor'. (Rated at about 1KW) That said
the boss certainly knew the value of the other stuff. Oh those were the
days.

used to buy the tank whips for the Lambretta's from there...those were the
days...fcukin' scooter never ran but it looked good!!..
