All that appears in similar (rehashed) forms in a range of "motivational...........Become teachers.......

People" or "Managing for Success". All will claim to have adherents from
"influential" parts of society. One is essentially a marketing tool for a

In the real world, those who rise to positions of real influence etc.
spot ideas, grasp moments, build coalitions, sidestep obstacles, set the
pace, engage stakeholders, drive on relentlessly, neutralise opposition,
overcome fears (especially your own), listen hard, inspire colleagues,
survive the flak, balance priorities, sweep forward, maintain
perspective, challenge hard, communicate effectively, persuade doubters.
Those who don't rise to the heights to which they aspire ........
That can't tune up a valve PA without the instruction manual!
