Hi all,Hi,
Has anyone had one of these and what was your opinion of it? Is it
worthwhile or is there far better for around the same price?
TIA

I have had one for a few years now.
It works well for a little box.
I like the DSP for CW.
But that's about all I like about it.
SWR indication just a stack of leds no sign of calibration.
Its not very tolerant on over 2.5:1 SWR ants and folds back.
RF /Power out same stack of leds no sign of calibration.
You have got to take the front panel off to plug the mike in.
You have got to take the front panel off to take it out.
And I cant manage to get my finger to release the mike lock so I use a pen.
They put the 6 pin and the 8 pin mini din sockets down recesses both
really to tight to plug a standard plug into easily you have to be real
careful when you do.
NO earth fixing.
For other VHF/UHF functions you need there MH-48 Mike £80 when I got mine
and then the 857 cost me £739.
I have never even bothered to ask what its worth as a trade in now. Maybe 1
and sixpence.
That BIG damn toriod and Power socket hanging out the back it gets hooked
down the back of my shelf. I cut it off converted to Power poles.
Mine has hardly been used its in a draw just sitting there.
I prefer my older IC-706MK2 and I take that out to 9M2 rather than the 857.
So there you go.
Not my best buy.
Any body interested in a deal I want a 706Mk11g.
If so give me a shout.
Very few miles on the 857.
