It's a good idea to determine what the contest is before calling:) The one is an ARR run contest. The idea is to work the US & Canada states & provinces. The exchange from them is report + state, e.g. "59 PA" and when working them is report + power.
It was fun getting in between the kilowatts + beams with my 10 watts & indoor dipole (actually all you need patience and more time listening than calling). I'm not sure how they score but I assume there are more points for working QR stations. I certainly got some nice complements and worked most of the eastern seaboard states around New York as well as New Found land & Ontario.
