Good idea. A simple "diode check" is probably enough at this stage.

Unless Google has filtered out the relevant post, do we actually know
what sort of FT-101 this is? The vanilla flavour 101? -E, -EE, -EX, -
Z, -ZD, etc...?
Which is why the advice I gave was "generic". I've repaired several 101's
of various type but don't recall problems in these areas.
