This is what is so awkward about getting a licence, in the old days you
could go to the local college and take the test.
a local Tech College. The course would run leading to the C & G
exam, I think that this was over one term. I think that the C & G
ran the exam twice a year.
Anyway, you couldn't just knock on the door and take the exam. First
of all you needed to find a college that was running the exam or
were willing to allow you to sit it there. Then you had to wait
until the date of the exam - which obviously could be months.
Now you need to find a club that is running the exams and wait until
they have enough people to make it worthwhile - which obviously
could be months.
That seems to me to be a bit like the old days.
BTW, if the C & G were running the exams you could expect to pay
around £100 a time.
There's a bit of me that says this is all rather silly. If someone
wants to be a radio amateur they will do the necessary, if they
don't then they won't :) If they do then they will find lots of
friendly people on the air.
Charlie.
