I stumbled on this Google group yesterday and was surprised to see
that the following was written about me back in April this year by a
member who calls himself zeroaurora:-
Title: G4JJX, 400Watts may arse!!
3.790, 400W is 30 over 9, switches amp off now using 100W is 10 over
9 -------- 20db gain using an extra 300W and same
antenna.........I don't think so!!!!
I'd like to thank those of you who, rather than joining zeroaurora in
condeming me as a liar who must be running far more than the legal
limit, gave me the benefit of the doubt in my absense.
At the time that I was heard I was running an FT980 into a Linear Amp
UK Ranger 811K, (K for Kit) which if pushed is capable of no more than
700-800 Watts, so even if I was running with this power, (which I
wasn't!) it certainly shouldn't have resulted in a 20dB increase in S
meter reading!! zeroaurora, I suggest you get your equipment checked
out. Nobody has ever reported an increase of more than 8-10dB to me.
Do have a callsign BTW zeroaurora?
Mike
G4JJX
on here to tell the true story.
Perhaps 'zeroaurora' will now realise that his S meter is far, far away
from being an accurately calibrated device and apologise publicly to you
for saying, libellously, that you were breaking licence conditions by
running excessive power.
But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting...
Best wishes

Perhaps you (G8IZY) and G4JJX missed the original post stating I
wasn't the only station on frequency witnessing such a large increase
in signal strength, the station he was doing the comparison with also
give the SAME increase.......but that's OK, now he's give his working
conditions all other parties to this qso must get their meters
recalibrated!!
This was discussed at the time and you will find that I didn't miss anything in the thread as I responded to your OP!
The fact that several S meters were involved, presumably from different types and makes of rig just goes to show how optimistic and wildly inaccurate most S meters are in general - something that you do know now.
I, and several others, tried to tell you this at the time.
But to use S meter readings to accuse somebody falsely of breaking the law is stupid and rather naïve to say the least.
I see that you still have not apologised publicly but have tried to do a bit of blame limitation instead!
Steve
