How does it work?

Is it amenable to selecting a higher temp for lead-free?



Basically how it works is like this; the bit as a small lump of metal of the
end that fits into the iron This metal has a well defined Curie point
temperature.

The sensor has a magnet that slides in the tube against a spring. When the
bit is below the curie point the magnet is attracted towards the bit and
closes the switch to the element. When the bit goes over the curie point the
magnetic attraction falls and the spring pushes the magnet away and opens
the switch.

So to change the tip temperature you need to select a bit with a different
curie temperature. The bits have the temperature marked on the end in
degrees F, 6 = 600F 7=700F etc.
