you attempt to establish truth before excitedly leaping onto
an abusive platform.
He who sold me the rig simply informed me that the filter
was not the correct one and was slightly off-tune so that
an increased drive level was needed when working with
the narrow filter.

This is the chap that bought a cheque-book radio, an FT-707, to
convert for 136 kHz. On finding that the rig didn't work on CW, he
posted a RFI on this very group. Helpful replies suggested the problem
was either a duff CW switch (mechanical, you will note) or the CW
filter had Bean removed and the link not replaced. He claims an 'ISP
failure' prevented him seeing the replies, despite them still being on
his newsserver. Nothing more was heard of this project.
