Just removes the tarnish. It's quite mild stuff. Don't try drinking
it, but it's safe to dip your fingers in.

p.s. Use of that product, depends on the whole thing being dunked in
the jar it comes in.
If you'd sooner have a product you apply by cloth/brush. There is a
custom product called 'Magimeto' made by a French company -
Chatelaine, of St.Bonnet, which will safely clean just about any
metal.
They do it mail order and it's also available from some suppliers in
the UK.
Alternatively you could use Goddards Sliver Foam. It's more of a paste and
is applied using a sponge, left to dry and rinsed off with water.
