My first 2m contact was transmitting on 10m FM (my modified Fidelity 2000 CB rig), using a sig gen plus a double balanced mixer (passive four-diode ring modulator) to mix it up to 2m, and finally a bandpass filter. I must have been in the band, because the other guy seemed to hear me OK!
