Personally I've never understood why some operators add the PREfix at
the end of their call signs! I had always assumed that the obvious
place for the prefix was the beginning, as you say ;)
I don't know about Europe, BUT in the USA several of the bilateral
operating agreements specify amateur station ID as:
HOME CALLSIGN--slash---call area on CW
and
HOME CALLSIGN---MOBILE---call area and location for voice
Example:
AI8O mobile VE3 near Toronto
North America this affects US and Canadian amateurs in each others
country.
1) The terms of the Convention Between the United States and Canada
(TIAS No. 2508) Relating to the Operation by Citizens of Either Country
of Certain Radio Equipment or Stations in the Other Country
The US and Canada share an automatic reciprocal operating agreement. US
amateurs must carry proof of their US citizenship and their valid US
license. Identification for US amateurs is the US call separated by a
stroke and the appropriate Canadian prefix identifier (e.g. N1KB/VE3).

That's correct re the US and Canada (although not any other combination of
countries AFAIK), Dan, but we were originally talking about a UK ham
operating in Las Vegas, so the preferred format would be W7/G3XYZ
(apologies to anyone who might have that particular call).
The FCC would also allow G3XYZ/W7, but the ITU now actively discourages
that format. The old format just happens to be written into the US/Canadian
agreement. With that exception, the FCC adopted the new format in part 97 a
long time ago, although they said in a later press release that either was
still acceptable..
I live in the US but am British (and not also a US citizen), so in Ontario
I become VE3/G8VUK, but in Vegas I would be N3KIP/7.
