Phil.

Makes you wonder how they "allegedly" managed to put a man up on the
moon
back in 69 and how they all safely returned doesn't it. 2006 and they
can't
even successfully launch a rocket into space... D'oh

So the Russians put a man on the moon in 1969, then?

News to me.....Double D'oh

They as in the people who put things into space not the Russians in
particular, many apologies for not making sure my post was pedantic proof.
However I do recall watching an interesting documentary about the space race
and America's race against the Russians. There wasn't much in it. Once
America landed their manned lunar module though in 69 there seemed little
point in being second. The USSR were set for a moon landing but after
technical glitches and the USA getting there first it was shelved. The USSR
were the first though to land probes on the Moons surface and that was back
in 1959.
They also were first to land probes on Venus in 1971.

So maybe I should have typed,

....It makes you wonder doesn't it how the USSR managed to launch probes to
land on the moon in 59 and here in 2006 they can't even get their rocket
into orbit... D'oh...
