As most of you know, both Foundation and Intermedate exams are now well
established, have set percentage pass marks and can be marked by local
instructors/invigilators on the night. All three exams are multiple choice
but...

The Advance exam is still in 'pilot' mode where all papers go back to
Potters Bar and are marked centrally. This permits the new 'Advanced'
question bank to be assessed more easily and the pass mark tweaked if
necessary.
the pass mark should NOT be tweaked...

the questions are what should be tweaked !!

thats the problem.

When the Advance syllabus was revised last year (which included the formula
sheet etc) this pilot phase was extended to assess the change. Another
reason for the extension was the modest numbers taking the exam (as
relatively few clubs have courses) and a dearth of questions in parts of the
exam database which needed time to expand.

Note that when the old RAE finished, C&G wouldnt handover their questions so
a new process had to be started from scratch.
so...thersa a wealth of past papers floating around...
use them !!

When the pilot phase finishes, presumably we will get a fixed pass mark and
may be quicker results.
the pass mark should already be fixed..otherwise the poor candidate who is
number 31 from the top of a list of 100 candidate will **ALWAYS** fail !!!

is that right Brian ?

The RAE (or whatevertisnowcalled)

A colleague (who's 'done' his FL and Intermediate exam ;-) is taking
this very shortly, but tells me that he won't know his result for about
a month.
I thought that this was a 'multiple-choice'-type test, so why - like the
FL and Intermediate levels he took earlier - can't he get his results
within a few minutes of everyone else in the room finishing the test?
I don't unnerstand...
