Hi, just trying to get back in to AR after quite a gap (kids). I have a 10m multimode to try and I've dug out a Cushcraft AR10 10m "ringo" from the garage. But I have a feeder question:
I used to have the back bedroom as a shack, now it'll have to be the front downstairs room. This means I have to feed the ringo up over the roof, down the side of the house and in to the front room. I *have* to use RG58 (size) coax to get in through an existing old TV coax hole and to run under the carpet to get to the radio. However, should I use RG58 (size) the whole run, or join it outside to RG213u for the rest of the run. It would be a 30m run, so approx 10m of RG58 and 20m of RG213.
Or, should I just use the best spec RG58 I can get for the whole run. Or Mini 8 which is close enough in size.
In other words, would the loss of the join and the mismatch of having 2 different sizes of coax outweigh the advantage of the lower loss?
You get the idea. Simple question, but I suspect a less than simple answer! :)
Nik,
The difference in loss between 30M or RG58 compared to 20M RG213/10M RG58 at 28MHz is around 1dB. How much you value every dB only you can decide :)
