Any _REAL_ Radio Ham worth his salt would open the rig and probe around to sort out problems - it's what it's all about!
Stupid boy ... Any 'real radio amateur' would realise that the beep is programmed in software and that the only way to silence it would be via the front panel, other than disconnecting the speaker - which would rather defeat it being used to monitor anything.
