OK here's the update. There's no gangs or illegal activity going on (except
for the unauthorised suspected bugging). Sorry to disappoint but no drugs,
money laundering, terrorism or police involvement. They both live in the
same house. I suggested putting the TV on and scanning the FM commercial
frequencies in another room first and listening for the TV. If nothing then
wander around the suspect room with a radio on to see if they got any
interference or feedback which got worse in any particular part of the room.
I wasn't present but the person appears to have gone straight to the second
suggestion first which I didn't want them to. Described the sound as
horrendous coming out of the radio (whatever that meant) when they moved to
a particular corner of the room (ie not the corner where the TV or stereo
was) but I suspect what they were describing was feedback. They said it was
nowhere near as bad in other parts of the room. I dont think they were able
to tune the radio in to any commercial stations clearly but need to confirm
this. They then said that when they put the radio closer to the corner it
suddenly stopped and the problem has now disappeared and everything seems
normal again. I suspect the device has suffered infinite gain through
feedback and blown itself to bits. Sound reasonable? I'm loathe to get
involved any more than suggesting their own investigations of this nature
because I know both people involved. I think the TV cables may have been a
red herring and nothing to do with this.
