Well, they aren't always that obvious. Try 'flexing' the board slightly (see
below).

If it's is a gas discharge display, yes.

I don't recall the display on the 430, is it of a similar type? Also, the
"burnt bit" isn't always that obvious and/or maybe the manufacturer used a
different technique.

Flex the PCB, do a bit of wiggling (power on but using a insulated tool).

I've not got a circuit to hand, do you have it in PDF format?
In general, if you have ruled out a dry joint or broken track, check the
voltages on the display and 'work back' from there.

That hints at an intermittent fault, may precipitated by a "knock" as you
say.

Based on experience of radios of some 'vintage', I'd start with a 'wiggle'
and see if the fault goes (even for a short time).
If nothing shows up, check a few voltages.
