Statins (Used to lower high cholesterol)
I'm apparently at the top end of mildly high (6.4)
Up from 6.1 a year ago....despite the healthiest eating campaign I've ever
been on!
And now the government drug-pushers are eyeing me up gleefully...Doc want's
to put me on Statins.
Apparently there's a big government push going on to get as many on these as
possible (providing they fit the current *recently expanded* profile...eg
Higher than 5 cholesterol, + age, BP, weight etc).
I'm sure there's some drug company rubbing their hands together at the
government decision, and some lobbyists celebrating!
So do I or don't I follow doctor's orders?
Is there anything I should know about this drug?
I have two friends on statins - one has gone from a fit ex-paratrooper
to a zombie, and my other friend has become very much less mobile,
full of aching muscles, and lacking enthusiasm for anything.
i've been pressed to go on to statins, but following a recommendation
from a third friend I went on to Flora maragarine. In three months my
cholesterol went from 7.4 to 5.2, enough for me to fob off the statins
recommendation.
I take max dose cod liver oil per day, plus 2g of Vitamin C, 2g of
garlic (in tablet form), and 10X the RDA of Vitamin E. [1]
I've outlived my brother by nine years.
[1] These are alleged to reduce the 'stickiness' of cholesterol, which
means that arterial deposits shouldn't build up. They have other
alleged benefits too.
[2] I've never been into running, but do a half-hour fast walk, half
of it uphill, every day.
[3] There's been good advice on this thread. Find a regime of diet,
exercise, and supplementation that you find suits you, Give it three
months, and go for a cholesterol test.
