According to the Metro he's lived there for 25 years and can hardly speak
Spanish, according to the The Grauniard, it's 10 years. Either way, what
a twat.
Classic English behaviour overseas. I just had a scout around to see how
much Hindi or Bengali the British tended to learn in India - not much, it
appears from a superficial search.
There was an absolute requirement for Brits in the Indian Civil Service to
qualify in at least one Indian language to remain in India, and for army
officers to qualify in at least two.
These days it's very difficult for someone English to practice any Indian
language in India as every Indian you meet wants to practice his or her
English at every opportunity, and the chance to practise on a native English
speaker is usually not one they're prepared to miss.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
