It's akin to me knocking on your door and you inviting me in. From
that moment on I have the status of invitee.
When a proprietor opens a shop and by his actions (advertising, window
display, promotion etc.) makes it perfectly clear what the intention
of his premises is then he offers an invitation to all and sundry who
become invitees by default.
Of course invitee status can be withdrawn at any time. From that
moment on the invitee becomes a trespasser and, if requested to do so,
must leave as soon as reasonably practicable. Neither is being an
invitee a defence against disorderly or abusive behaviour.
