Must admit, we turned the central heating off back in March/April.....and it will be a friggin' cold day in hell before we concider turning it back on again.....although I would not advise anyone to turn it off totally for months on end etc....you need to fire it up once or twice a week, even if only for the odd ten minutes or so.
I can see us 'visiting' friends quite alot this winter lol !!!
Just to add....
We had the system installed last year - a very economical condensing combi boiler system....previously we had an electric emersion heater....why those fuckers haven't been banned by now is a total mystery to me......we must have saved ££££££'s over the last year only having to heat the water we need.
We saw our electricity bill slashed by about 2 thirds.....and the gas bill did not go up by anywhere near the same amount. (although it's possible about to do so, given the news of this gas price hike!!!)
But I'd urge anyone still heating tank fulls of water to rip out that outdated system asap!
I had a Vaillant combi installed about two years ago, very pleased with it apart every few months it appears to lose pressure and requires regularly re-priming, last year on Boxing Day when we had lots of friends and family round for lunch an internal rubber pipe split open leaving us with no hot water and a slightly wet bedroom ceiling [its on the wall in the loft].. good job I've got a [fully qualified] mate in the trade who who can fix these things quickly and cheaply for me;)
This week we bought a one shot water heater, boils a cup of water in 3 seconds And is supposed to save up to 65% energy, however all that's been outweighed by the fact that we've now been drinking more cups of tea and coffee than usual, simply because it's so quick and easy.. hopefully the novelty will wear off soon!
