I watched the European Nations Cup Final in my local 'foootball bar'.
Among the thirty or so people watching were five Germans, three
Spanish, a Scotsman, three Belgians, several French of course, but
of various extrcaction, two Senegalese, musicians doing a concert in
the village, and a Swede.

Plus one gone native English bloke (me) so surrounded by all thes
bloody foreigners all talking to each other and enjoying the
internationalism of it all. How terrible.

And were they there to watch the footy or for the internationalism?

For both I suspect. It was on the public freez channels so they could have watched it wherever they were stayin oàr lived but it is much more fun in public.

I don't really see the point of this.

I was at Wembly the other week for one of the play-off finals
(Doncaster Rovers v Leeds United) It was a great British occasion, a
great Yorkshire occasion, we all enjoyed the atmosphere. However, we
were there for the footy, to cheer on our side. The rest was
peripheral.

Soon you'll be talking of visions and great social adventures.

No it was simply meant as an illustration of the real existence of Europe

How?

(and further afield in the case of the Senegalese). People understand that they are as much European as nationals of their countries these days, enjoy that situation and are conscious of the opportunities that brings in all sorts of areas, bei it only chatting to other Europeans over a football match.

Ahhh....I see, it's all beginning to make sense now. If it weren't for the existence of the EU, you would have all sat in national groupings talking only amongst those of your own tribe. What vapouring nonsense!

Mainland Europe likes the EU, as does Ireland, the only hair in/on the soup is the UK.
