BTW, what is a gigaflop of user programmable processing? I always
understood kilo- mega- giga- tera- peta- flops to be expressions of
floating point operations per second, but not processing per se since a
"process" can be composed of many thousands of flops -- actually it is
layers deeper than that and the "flop" becomes a low-level basic building
block leading to a thing called "command"......... Things like RISC was
meant to reduce the flops necessary for processing supposed to simplify
this, OS's like Windows bloats it.
Point Operations Per Second, i.e. an output measure of actually producing
results per second. Flops are not the same as cycles x pipelines x processors
per second! The aim of pipelining is to get 1 flop per cycle per pipeline
(per processor to be pedantic), though this is only sustainable for short
bursts of processing. But marketing men have confused the flops issue to
produce larger numbers, and you have fallen for it, LOL.
At you I am truly laughing. How do you feel to be marching in the parade of
narrow minded idiots who think that they know it all?
I'm afraid it is your ignorance that is showing.
In terms of standard 'instructions', with which you seem obsessed for some reason, without hardware support it would normally take a few hundred instruction executions to produce one floating point result ie 1 FLOP.
