The UK has to have the metric system shoved down its throat, to conform.

Are you seriously telling me that you'd rather have 12 inches to the
foot, three feet to the yard, 1,760 yards to the mile, 12 pence in a
shilling, 20 shillings in a pound, 6 feet in a fathom, and so on?
You'd like to measure up timber or metal in manufacturing in terms of
3/8" (three-eighths of an inch), 5/64" and the other ancient and
arcane Imperial measurements?

Imperial is a much easier way of measuring wood and other building
materials.

That is utter nonsense. You can never have used the metric system.

You must really enjoy making life difficult for yourself!

So why does the US insist on keeping Imperial if it's such a load of
rubbish? I have lost countless US customers because my site has
everything measured in mm and they haven't a clue what it means. I
wish I had thought about it at the time when I was building the
site....

There are many in Middle America who aren't aware that there are other
countries beyond the East and West coasts. You don't know just how
parochial America is, I'm afraid.

And in any case, the US gallon isn't the same as the UK gallon, so the
US can't even get that one right!

A litre, a metre, a kilo are the same ALL over the world! And only ONE
rule you need to know: How to multiply or divide by ten.
