I see today that the Govt vetoed an increase in prisoners' pay. I heard
some chap on the radio bleating on about how important it is for the
prisoners to be able to phone their loved ones etc. Well, sorry to be
too hard hearted, but my answer is - tough! If you choose to become a
criminal and get caught you must face hardships. There are many
countries in the world where food is not provided for prisoners and
their loved ones have to bring food in for them or else they would
starve. I suspect that most people believe prison should be a punishment
and a deterrent. I suppose I would grudgingly accept we have to feed
prisoners but I can see no reason why they should be paid out of my
taxes.
For the nth time:
In the UK the penalty for crime is loss of liberty.
Not loss of liberty plus loss of food etc.
Your taxes are nothing to do with it.
